West Bromwich Bus Station
This award winning transport interchange node was created from the need to upgrade and integrate the local transport network with a busy shopping and residential area. Built on the site of three existing car parks, the bus and metro station (with state of the art facilities and local public art) has raised the town’s profile attracting more local and national interest.
Public safety, information and accessibility are its key features; the inclusion of up to the minute passenger information boards, extensive CCTV coverage with on-site security, and its facilities for the disabled within a purpose built ‘Shop mobility’ centre, resulted in the development winning the Bus Industry Award 2002.
Mobius studio worked in partnership with Marc Worrall Associates to produce a series of designs and working drawings incorporating offices, public amenities and a driver’s canteen; the entire project had a total build cost of £4.5m.
